Eggs, oh, where to begin... They can wreak havoc o Eggs, oh, where to begin...
They can wreak havoc on our arteries, if you want the scientific deets, let me know and we can schedule a call.
⁣
Aside from increased risk of heart attack, stroke and death (as if that weren’t enough) let’s throw in the cancer risk...
⁣
So in short, to avoid the above mentioned, let’s find some alternatives!
⁣
If you’re baking;
- applesauce
- Flaxseed
- Tofu
- Banana
- Yogurt
⁣
Think you’ll miss scrambled eggs? I did too, but tofu can be a great replacement for scrambled eggs as well.
⁣
By leading a whole food, plant based lifestyle you’re increasing your health span. Don’t settle for the instant gratification. In a world like today, let’s enjoy life and gear our mindset toward prevention, rather than settling for treatment. #livingwithLacy

If you struggle with your weight - either gaining If you struggle with your weight - either gaining unwanted pounds or you’re not reaching your weight loss goals, then it could be that you aren’t getting enough sleep.
⁣
Research has shown that poor sleep habits can result in an increased risk of obesity.
⁣
When your sleep is all over the place, so is your appetite, leading to a higher caloric intake 😳
⁣
Adults should get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night (if you’re a parent this probably sounds unreasonable, at least it does to me).
⁣
Sleep provides us with multiple benefits that contribute to optimal health. To increase your sleep hygiene habits consider the following;
👉🏼 reduce stimulant use
👉🏼 reduce screen time
👉🏼 exercise
👉🏼 avoid foods that trigger discomfort

An odd way to ask such a question. I did that on purpose. More on that later...

Green tea, when combined with exercise, has the potential to reduce the effects of fatty liver disease (according to studies by Penn State). 😳

Have you stepped back to look at your quality of l Have you stepped back to look at your quality of life?
Odd question, I know.
⁣
We count our blessings when we wake up in the morning, when we have the ability to move, when we have a roof over our heads.
⁣
Today I challenge you to reflect upon your past, and future expectations.
Are your expectations hindering you from accomplishing more than you can imagine?
⁣
Meditate.
Sit in peace for a few minutes.
Journal.
Write out your feelings.
Document dreams.
This one takes practice, though it can become a habit - I’m still working on.

Do you reach for food when your body is actually t Do you reach for food when your body is actually trying to tell you that it’s thirsty?
⁣
Being able to distinguish whether you’re hungry or just thirsty is a skill we should all have, yet very few of us pay close enough attention.
⁣
We may blame our brain, since the same area that sends signals to let us know we’re hungry happens to be the same area that signals when we’re thirsty. 🤔
⁣
Here are some signs of thirst/dehydration:
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Dizziness
Some signs of hunger include;
- Rumbling stomach
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Change in mood
Hormones in the gut signal to the brain when we’re hungry. With the types of food eaten in the modern diet (ie. sugar, salt, fat) these signals can become confusing.
⁣
A tip while tuning into your body - ⭐️ the next time you think you may be hungry, but it’s not quite mealtime, drink a glass of water then wait 10-15 minutes.
⁣
Do you keep track of your water intake?

Did you know that foods labeled “organic” can Did you know that foods labeled “organic” can have different meanings? True Story.
⁣
When you see the green and white USDA Organic seal, it means that the product is certified to be 95% or more organic.
⁣
According to the Mayo Clinic, here are the following guidelines for organic labeling:
⁣
* 100 percent organic - You’ll find this on single ingredient foods such as fruits, veggies, and eggs. These may also have a USDA seal.
* Organic. If a multi-ingredient food is labeled organic, at least 95 percent of the ingredients are certified organic, excluding salt and water. The nonorganic items must be from a USDA list of approved additional ingredients. These also may have a USDA seal. (Mayo Clinic)
* Made with Organic ingredients - A multi-ingredient product has at least 70% certified organic ingredients then the label can read “Made with Organic Ingredients”. You’ll find products like cereals, crackers, etc. with this wording.
* Organic ingredients - I found this to be interesting, because if you aren’t paying close attention, then the wording for these products is very close to the previous wording of Made with Organic Ingredients. Product labels that include organic ingredients are identified as having less than 70 percent of a multi-ingredient product is certified organic. The ingredient list may indicate which ingredients are organic.
⁣
Ok, so when it comes to conventional vs. organic, do you always need to buy organic? You’ll reap the benefits of the fruit or vegetable whether it’s organic or not.
⁣
Consuming fruits and veggies over not consuming them at all is a better option.
⁣
I suggest keeping an eye on the Dirty Dozen & Clean 15, because this list DOES change. Also, make sure to soak/wash your produce.

There are so many benefits to allowing children to help you cook or bake, such as learning numbers and measurements. They also have an opportunity to learn where their food comes from.

I get it, 2020 has been a year lived in survival mode. However, it’s never too late to reignite your ability to thrive. If you don’t have your health, what do you have? 😳
⁣
All it takes is mindset.

If you’re lacking energy, take a step back and evaluate your nutrition.
👉🏼 are you eating foods that cause fatigue?
👉🏼 are you eating foods that push your body into overdrive to digest?

If you’re lagging throughout the day, and thinking this is the norm, you’re being fooled! You can feel great, and it’s likely you have forgotten what it feels like to thrive.

Is a plant-based lifestyle healthy for children?
⁣
Absolutely!
⁣
If you yourself aren’t willing to eat something, then why feed it to your children?
⁣
A plant-based diet contributes to a diverse microbiome among children!
⁣
The Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recently published a study revealing gut health as responsive to certain food groups.
⁣
The study also revealed that more diseases are attributed to an imbalance of the gut. It’s never too late (or TOO EARLY!) to encourage healthy eating habits that can be maximized over one’s life.

Christmas is just a few days away! Can you believe Christmas is just a few days away! Can you believe it? 2020 has been the longest and shortest year all rolled into one.

Are you keeping your traditions this year or straying away from them?
Overall, I’ve been trying to keep things minimal. This year we’re simplifying gift giving. We made the holiday season focused on family and spending time with one another. In regards to gifts, we’re giving one for each of the following;

As a nutritionist, I’m often asked how many calo As a nutritionist, I’m often asked how many calories should be consumed in a day... great question, but I don’t have an answer for you. 😳
⁣
Everyone varies due to their activity level, type of food being eaten and many other factors. 🌟
⁣
Instead, I ask you to consider how you feel.
⁣
👉🏼 Are you eating empty calories?
👉🏼 Are you eating nutrient dense food?
👉🏼 Are you indigested throughout the day?
👉🏼 Are you still hungry after a meal?
⁣
These are all questions that you should think about, and later we can consider calories. For now, I want you to pay attention to satiety queues. Not sure what that means? Let’s chat - link is in my bio!

Don’t! Here’s why! ⁣ - Hormones - think abou Don’t! Here’s why!
⁣
- Hormones - think about it, why are cows lactating to begin with? So even if you’re consuming the cleanest milk, it contains hormones. Studies have found these hormones linked to hormone-dependent disease (breast, ovarian & prostate). Children’s exposure to these hormones has sparked concern over whether it leads to early puberty.
- Casein - increases possibility of cancer cell growth
- Children - allergies in the form of constipation, eczema and asthma, all linked to cow’s milk.

Recent research conducted by Penn State College of Recent research conducted by Penn State College of Medicine has shown a link between strength training and a longer life. While we know that cardio exercise has been shown to lower cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s and even cancer, strength training is an activity we should ALL consider. Strength training isn’t limited to only pumping iron, but also HIIT workouts and stability work using a stability ball, isometric contractions and balance training.

Exercises can start simple such as lifting, sitting and standing techniques to correct and induce proper posture. This can progress into improving strength, restoring flexibility and preserving coordination.
