Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts, and also Motherhood is one of the greatest gifts, and also one of the hardest.

I find myself reacting, then apologizing.
Responding, then empowering.
Comforting, then guiding.

The biggest struggle I face is learning right along side them. Letting go of my own expectations to fulfill theirs. I am far from the perfect parent, though I try my hardest to be the best I can for them.

These little moments remind me just how blessed I am.

One of the challenges I face when it comes to meal One of the challenges I face when it comes to meal planning/prep is time.
Between work, household chores, quality time with our kids, quality time with our partner, we tend to fall short somewhere is exchange for having a decent meal.

How can we conquer this challenge?
👉🏼 include kids in cooking - you can teach life skills such as using a knife or measuring ingredients
👉🏼 cooking with your partner can be a way to include the entire family
👉🏼 choose one day a week to prep your meals - this shortens the amount of time you spend each day preparing meals
👉🏼 cookware - when we use quality pots and pans our time spent in the kitchen can be reduced while retaining nutrients

What’s for dinner? I love when meals are delici What’s for dinner?
I love when meals are delicious, and don’t take all day to prepare. I mean who doesn’t?!
This past month I’ve been inspired to make more Asian inspired dishes. They were all flavorful. When you order meals at restaurants you have to be aware of the added oils that are typically used in cooking and salt. Both of which I choose to omit. #SOSfree

When you’re trying to lose weight, or simply eat When you’re trying to lose weight, or simply eat cleaner - is it ok to eat and drink things in moderation?

Well, it depends.

It depends on your personality. 💃🏽
It depends on what it is you’re consuming in moderation. 🍟🧈🥨

Let me explain.
When it comes to your personality, do you have the ability to know when to stop? 🛑

Discipline will determine this.

With many of us, having the food/drink in our environment is enough to crumble our discipline, and our “in moderation” goes out the window. It’s ok to go abstinent.

When I say it depends on what you’re consuming, this goes hand in hand with your discipline. If you decide to have the croissant, or beverage of choice, your taste buds are going to remember that taste and want more. 🍺

This is where you have to consider - is it worth it to splurge for the sweet or savory goodie that you’ll be craving again later? 🤔
And is it worth it to your health? Usually with these options that we label as “only in moderation”, come some sort of detriment to our health. 🚴🏽‍♀️

Keep in mind that moderation is not going to give you the end results you are hoping to achieve. 🎗

“I don’t know what to eat!” I hear this oft “I don’t know what to eat!”

I hear this often, and guess what? You’re not alone! We are blessed by so many options that it can feel overwhelming.

I suggest planning ahead.
Before your weekly trip to the grocery store, find 3-4 recipes that you can prepare for dinners and have as leftover lunches as well.

This will alleviate the stress of not knowing what to make when it comes dinner time. This also helps you use the food you purchase and not waste food that you may have purchased, then didn’t know what to make with it (ie. save 💰).

If you’re in need of some meal ideas leave a comment below and I’ll send you some of my favorite recipes.

I have a lot of people ask me how they can lose we I have a lot of people ask me how they can lose weight... I’ll be honest this is not my preferred focus.
I’ve figured out why. Most people want numbers, but as much as I like math I’d prefer focusing on nutrients.

If you’re trying to lose weight, here are some #WFPB tips:
👉🏼 rather than counting calories, look at what you’re eating!
Are you eating fibrous foods?
Are you eating your veggies?
How much water are you drinking?
👉🏼 SOS free 🤨 Salt Oil Sugar - cut it out!
👉🏼 Balance - are you eating until satiety? Are you overeating?
👉🏼 Circadian Rhythm - how close to bedtime are you eating? Your body needs proper time to digest.

She’s looking at me like I’m crazy... probably She’s looking at me like I’m crazy... probably because I am a little 😜

Have you ever been in a social setting where the food that was being served either;
- didn’t fit into your diet at the time?
Or
- you didn’t like what was offered?
Maybe you didn’t want to be rude, so you ate the food anyway? It’s not a fun position to be in, right?

Trust me, I’ve been there. I think there have even been social events where I wasn’t included, because I didn’t eat like everyone else. 🤷🏽‍♀️

What should you do?

Be honest.
⭐️ With yourself, and others. If you aren’t true to yourself, how will you feel later?

Those who love you will understand.
⭐️ Whether it’s for your health or your beliefs, choose to surround yourself with people who will support you, not judge you or consider you an inconvenience.

Come prepared.
⭐️ Eat before hand, and bring your own food to accommodate your needs. It simplifies the situation and alleviates making people feel uncomfortable when they don’t have food that suits your needs.

You guys?!? Last night we sat down as a family to You guys?!? Last night we sat down as a family to eat dinner. I made African Sweet Potato Peanut Soup (adapated from @saladmasterfoodture). It was a hit with the whole family.

After my husband finished his bowl, he got up to get some salad and guess what!! 😳
My 5 year old asked if she could have some salad 🥗

I have never pushed salad! Ever!

This is the PERFECT example of how modeling healthy behaviors will rub off on your children.
I know it can be discouraging when your kids don’t want to eat what you offer.

A recent post mentioned the two bite rule. ✌🏼
Keep offering healthy food choices. Explain why you and your family eat the way that you do, kids will follow your lead.
Helpful tips for #pickyeaters:
⭐️ Include your kids in food prep/cooking
⭐️ Make food fun, not stressful by adding color and shapes!
⭐️ Give options - various textures, flavors and even temperatures

I’m posting a new article soon that includes som I’m posting a new article soon that includes some #PlantBasedDesserts because who doesn’t love a little sweetness in their life?!
Let me give you a couple facts about a plant based lifestyle:
1) it doesn’t have to be complicated! If you aren’t sure what to eat, just ask!
2) it doesn’t have to be flavorless. For example pictured here is a #SweetPotato Berry Cobbler that I made in my #ElectricOilSkillet. Did I mention that it’s #sugarfree?
3) If you didn’t see my story today, I remind all of you that you don’t eat only vegetables on a plant based lifestyle. The options are endless!

Just when you think it can’t get worse, it does. Just when you think it can’t get worse, it does... Have you ever walked into a room and forgot what you went in there for?

How about pick up your phone to look something up, but you go to search and can’t remember what you were going to look up?

Better yet, mid-conversation you completely blank on what you were about to say?!
#mombrain
Yes, it’s annoying and leaves you second guessing yourself daily.

Did you know that it’s actually a thing?

According to research, a mother’s brain rewires itself after having a baby. This rewiring gives greater capacity to our motherly instinct - pretty cool if you ask me... but also somewhat, eh annoying when you’re trying to multi-task (work, or have an adult conversation... 🤦🏽‍♀️)

Comforting to know that our mental state is shared by others, right?

I don’t have a solution for your mental capacity, because what a blessing it is that your emotions kick in when caring for your kiddos.

From results among my clients, I do have suggestions that may boost cognitive function. Ever heard of nootropics? They come in the form of food, drinks, supplements, and even drugs. You may be familiar with one of the most common - caffeine.

Here are a few of my favorite plant compounds that promote mental capacity:
🫖 Green Tea - supports healthy mental processes
🍫 Cacao flavonoids may encourage neuron and blood vessel growth in parts of the brain involved in memory and learning
🌱 Ashwagandha - supports memory enhancement and restful sleep

Do you use nootropics for mental clarity? I’d love to hear your experience!

I hear your struggles;
👉🏼 my kids won’t eat what I feed them
👉🏼 my family eats meat, they won’t go for anything, but...
👉🏼 I’m not sure how to get my kids to eat more veggies
👉🏼 what if my partner won’t eat what I make?
I HAVE been there too! In fact I have kids that still won’t eat everything I make. I never liked the idea of making two meals - one for me and my husband and a second for my kids, but guess what?! Sometimes it happens!
⁣
⭐️ Make a two bite rule - kids receive a small portion of the dinner you made. They have to try TWO bites before deciding they don’t like it.
⭐️ There’s a common misconception that when you are incorporating more plant based foods into your lifestyle that you won’t feel full. I’m not over here living on salads. Make hearty meals that will satisfy!
⭐️ Add veggies into your kids favorite dishes. There is a variety of plant based pastas now. Smoothies/smoothie bowls. Veggie cake, yep CAKE! Muffins, the list. Goes. On.
⭐️ Talk to your partner about why you want to include more plant based whole foods. Can you make an arrangement to cut back on animal products 3-4 times a week? Compromise is key. Life doesn’t have to be turned upside down to get healthier. Small steps are part of the process.

I must say they all turned out better than expected.

I get it you’re busy. We all are. But that doesn I get it you’re busy. We all are. But that doesn’t mean your health should sacrifice. When you’re short on time, believe it or not, you still have options for workin’ on your fitness. Choose wisely! It’s not always about duration - keep it simple and effective.
⁣
- Sprints/run - sprints are super effective, full out efforts for 30 seconds, rest for 30
- Stairs? Run up them! Skip a step (safely) and switch up your pace.
- AMRAP also known as As Many Round As Possible - choose 4-5 body weight movement (squats, push-ups, etc), pick a number then see how many rounds you can get through is a set time, such as 6 mins.
- Taking your kids to the park? Play along side them. Lunges, squats, tricep dips on the benches.
⁣
Movement and exercise don’t have to be complicated. Parents especially, should make it a priority to be physical. It not only helps with your longevity but also sets a good example for your family.

Once upon a time ago I asked my friend to send me Once upon a time ago I asked my friend to send me a meal plan. A plan that would help me get lean. So of course she gave me one and I followed it. It was miserable. It was packed full of protein and tasted like shit. I guess I lost weight, but I was skinny fat.
⁣
Fast forward to training for the Army and I was eating “clean”, but again tasteless and probably (no, definitely), lacking nutrients. I also didn’t find myself that lean, even though I was working out practically everyday. 👉🏼 I wasn’t eating enough.
⁣
Six years, and three kids later, I’m the leanest I’ve been. I consciously eat food that nourishes my body, and I don’t feel deprived! I average 4-5 workouts, during a good week. Exercise is for my mental health, as well as wanting to be strong and keep up with my kiddos.
⁣
I have learned to tune into my body.
👉🏼 There are still foods that cause me bloat.
🚫 Sugar is not my friend.
🚴🏽‍♀️ Movement helps with digestion.
🌱 Food is fuel, but it doesn’t need to be flavorless.

If you have weight to lose, yes, you may want to impose more discipline into your lifestyle. This isn’t to deprive you. It is to bring awareness to your body so that you know the foods that your body thrives on.
