To be honest, I’m not entirely sure. 
Some days are far more challenging than others.
Some days I’m on the brink of tears.
Some days I’m telling myself, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere 🤷🏽‍♀️
And some days I can’t soak up enough cheek kisses! 

Motherhood is a season, and the season may seem long but once we weather through them (see what I did there? 😬) we’ll look back and wonder where the time went.

Maybe you’ve wondered or maybe you thought they were the same. 🤷🏽‍♀️
It’s all chocolate, right? 

Yes…

Cocoa refers to cacao beans that are roasted. It is used for chocolate bars and processed chocolate. 

Cacao is where chocolate comes from, but this version consists of the unroasted cacao beans. You’ll find this in vegan/raw chocolate products. 

Both contain flavanols - a nutrient with health benefits. However, as a result of processing there is a reduction in health benefits. Stick with cacao to receive more nutritional value.

Cacao is typically more bitter than cocoa found in chocolate products. 

- Cacao is rich in antioxidants 
- May reduce inflammation
- Possible cancer protection

How can you incorporate cacao into your routine?
- add to smoothies
- add to oatmeal/overnight oats
- enjoy a cacao latte

If you have trouble finding raw cacao to add to any of your meals, opt for dark chocolate with a minimum 80% cocoa/cacao, as it may retain more of the antioxidant benefits.

No, this isn’t the list of “what I wanted to be when I grow up.” 
This is what I am, as a parent.
The jobs above are the jobs that they don’t warn you about.
I had no idea I’d be a full-time mediator.

The things people try to warn you about when you become a parent, like the terrible twos, tumultuous threes, and the dreaded teenage years. How it goes by so fast, and it does. My oldest turns 6 this week 😳

All the jobs aside, the magic they possess outweighs all the unexpected and even the unpleasant things.

Last week was a hard week and this week is hard for different reasons, but each time I look at these precious faces, the 10 minutes of smiles and giggles makes the 23 hours and 50 minutes of “work” worth it.

Guess what?
I got my ass out of bed and I worked out. I didn’t let yesterday’s decisions impact the choices I made today. 
Each day is a fresh start to improve your health. Improve your nutrition. Level up your workout. 

If your nutrition takes a dump, don’t use it as an excuse. We ALL go through ups and downs.

Where there’s a will there is a way. Why do you want to have better health? Have this reason plastered all over your house! Find the drive from within to keep you consistent.

Whether it is your career, parenting, nutrition or exercise. 
Mindset is crucial. If we are lacking motivation, then it is time to figure out why.

You are capable of more than you think, and if you are doubting this then you are creating your own walls that need to be taken down. 

When I started exercising, I couldn’t do a push up. I never thought I’d be able to bust out more than 10. In fact I remember working with a personal trainer and couldn’t even do a step up with weights. I was weak - physically, not mentally. Do you think I stopped? Absolutely not. I broke down those barriers and made myself stronger. You can too.

Some inspiration:

- Write out a meal plan for the week
- Schedule a training program
- Find an accountability partner
- Invest in you!

I’m a BIG fan of oatmeal bakes! They’re simple I’m a BIG fan of oatmeal bakes! They’re simple to make and great for filling up hungry bellies! This one reminds me of banana bread, but I also make a blueberry, mixed berry and carrot cake variation.

I was raised on what I thought was a healthier version of the Standard American Diet (SAD). Not a lot of sugar, and little fat. What was engrained into my routine was the notion of macros, even though I don’t even count macros! 

We often get stuck in what we think is right, yet if it hasn’t worked for us  then why are we still allowing it to be the foundation of our beliefs? 

If your health and wellness isn’t progressing, then it’s time to make a change. 
👉🏼 Your environment may need a cleanse.
👉🏼 Your nutrition may need altering. 

When attempting to change YEARS of the same mistakes, it takes time to grasp what the RIGHT habits are. Don’t beat yourself up for not making progress in two weeks. 

Reevaluate the beliefs that are holding you back from feeling better and performing better. 
Change is scary, but until you take a step outside your comfort zone, you aren’t making change.
You’re stuck.

I wanted to address this topic because it’s beco I wanted to address this topic because it’s becoming more common that I am hearing people referring to their allergies. If you’ve had allergy testing, by all means avoid the trigger food. 

But, if it’s a sensitivity, it may be something you can heal! 😳

How?

Depending on your experience, you can reintroduce the food little by little. 

What changes?
Your gut!

Rather than eliminating the food, I suggest finding the cause that triggers the sensitivity. This is where gut health come into play. 

A healthy gut means a healthy environment for the foods to thrive in. A healthy environment means better, more efficient digestion. 
Focus on gut health and your body will thank you!.

When produce is non-organic we want to pay special attention to cleaning these products. It’s possible (and in many cases, likely) that they were sprayed with pest repellents. Even if you are purchasing organic, it’s smart to clean your produce.

I follow @michaelgregermd advice in making my own solution to clean my produce. Use 1 part salt to 9 parts water. Soak and rinse the salt solution off before consuming.
